Childrens and Family Yoga

I am a fully trained and qualified YogaBugs teacher, and teach Yoga to children aged 2 and a half years of age upwards.  At present I teach children in afterschool clubs as part of the School Sports Partnership scheme. Following the birth of my second child later in the year I am hoping to set up additional classes outside of the school environment. I will post these details on the internet when they are finalised.

Yoga is fantastic fun and exercise for children, children do yoga naturally a lot of the time! The classes for younger children are based upon a story from going treking in the jungle to deep in the ocean, the possibilities are endless!

The childrens yoga classes take the same format as traditional adult classes, with yoga postures/asanas, breathwork/pranayama, and relaxation/meditation.

I also teach private lessons in the family home if required.

Benefits of Yoga for Children

*Yoga postures can be modified so there are no restrictions, in yoga we work at our own individual level anyone rgardless of their level of fitness can take part in classes.

*Classes encourage interaction, creativity, improve self expression  use of imagination.

*Yoga helps to develop balance and stability and enables the children to maintain their natural flexibility and posture. It also tones the muscles, increases strength and boosts the immune system on a physical level.

*The breathwork exercises, are excellent for lung capacity and increase concentration and energy levels.

*Relaxation/meditation exercises help concentration, enduce calm, encourages memory retention and gives children coping strategies for life.

*Yoga is sage and non-competitive, everyone works at their own level and is encouraged to go within and to not worry about the level that other class mates are working at, thus it is very good for self esteem, as lots of praise is given thorughout the class and regular yoga sees dramatic improvements which the children can see and feel.

* Yoga is perfect for children with physical, mental and emotional special needs.

* Yoga if done as a family activity can encourage a sense of fun, bonding and is a lovely way of getting children to exercise.
